Week 07: Vikings Lose To Bears 48-41

Kluwe Practicing His Hammer Time Dance Routine

Didn’t I tell you that this was Bizarro week! The Vikings and Bears, teams known for their defense, puts up 89 points on the scoreboard. Both teams are not known for their quarterbacks yet both flirted with 300 yards passing. What is up is down, what is wrong is right in the Bizarro World of Brad Childress and the Minnesota Vikings.

The Bears won at home today, 48-41 and are now in first place in the NFC North as Bears quarterback passed for two scores and almost 300 yards. But that doesn’t tell the tale of the tape.

Staying with the Bizarro World scenario, the Vikings had 8 more first downs, over a 100 more yards total offense, more than 100 yards rushing, 18 more plays, and 11 more minutes in time of possession. And they lost the game! How is this possible? Bizarro plays, that’s how!

Bizarro Play #1: Vikings line up to punt, the score is tied at 7, and Kluwe has something other than the football on his mind as he muffs the snap, then kicks the ball, its blocked, then he picks the ball up again and tries to punt it again. Again its blocked and run into the endzone for a Bears touchdown.

Bizarro Play #2: Shiancoe catches a 24 yard TD pass from Frerotte. He hangs onto the ball and ties the score at 14. Usually, Shiancoe would drop this pass. This is one for the Bears.

Bizarro Play #3: Game is tied at 17 in the second quarter and the Vikings defense finally force the bears to punt. Gordon is back to receiver and lets the ball bounce inside the 10 yard line. The ball seeks out Gordon and hits him allowing the Bears defender to recover the ball in the endzone for a touchdown going up 24-17.

Bizarro Play #4: Bears receiver streaking down the field after catching a long pass. He is stripped of the ball at the one yard. A trailing Bear receiver pounces on the ball for the score.

Still not convinced that the Vikings are in the Bizarro Universe? then how else do you explain the Vikings efficiency in the red zone today. Vikings went 3-5 inside the 20 yard line and went 3-3 in goal to goal situations. Prior to this game, the Vikings were dead last in the league in the red zone.

Switching gears to the finish. Last week I spoke of the special teams usually giving up a big play to change the outcome of the game. Well today, the Vikings special teams gave up two big plays directly resulting in 14 points for the Bears.

To the Vikings positive, they did contain Devin Hester by kicking away from him and covering well when he did have the ball. And they blocked a field goal attempt.

OK, I know everyone is waiting for the LTB (Lower The Boom) on Brad Childress. Yes, there was Adrian Peterson on the sidelines three times on third and one yard. And yes, the Vikings defense couldn’t contain kyle Orton and the Bears offense. And yes, Childress did not alter his game plan and bring pressure by blitzing Orton to take him out of his game. Orton passed at will all game. And yes, there was another loss dipping the Vikings under 500 again. (It’s where Childress feels his best at)

Next week the Vikings have their bye week. Perhaps now is the perfect time to reshape the team starting with the firing of Brad Childress. I guarantee you that he throws Kluwe under the bus tomorrow. I won’t even mention the botch up with signing Tomas Topah giving him $1.2 million in guaranteed money. I see Mewelde Moore, former running back for the Vikings, had 120 yards rushing and two TD’s today for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But we had to sign Topah instead……

A winning season for Childress. Rapper MC Hammer said it best…

Can’t Touch This…..

Jeff Garcia had a fantastic game again for the Bucs. He is performing at all pro levels. The Vikes could have obtained him for a 3rd round pick. Childress was to pigheaded to move away from Jackson. Now look where that got us. I’m disgusted!
