Pete Rose – Cincinnati Reds

Posted by LOTGK on April 29, 2008

pete rose autograph signing

Back in March, while in Las Vegas, I saw Pete Rose at Caesars Palace signing autographs. He didn’t look all too happy to be there.

Perhaps it was because there was nobody in line to get his signature.
Or maybe he’s still angry he was never inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York as he deservedly should.

It was sort of sad for there were two guys outside trying to drum up people to come in and see Pete. They had microphones telling people to come on in and see mister baseball, Charlie Hustle, one of the best players in baseball.

They were enthusiastic, but not so much for the patrons of Caesars.

I can’t begin to describe the sadness this photo conjures. Pete will always be the leading hitter, the guy who ran out every trip to first base, the guy who (probably) had no other passion in life but baseball. Comparisons to Ty Cobb come easy. Cobb died bitter and perhaps delusional. I hope Pete finds some peace. And I hope the Hall of Fame eventually does the right thing.

No Blue, I did not. I have Pete Rose baseball cards but not with me at the time. Didn’t know he would be there. Or me for that matter.
