Lost Update – Time Warp

Lost Update Season IV 02/28/2008

It’s astounding, time is fleeting
Madness takes its toll
But listen closely, not for very much longer
I’ve got to keep control

I remember doing the TIme Warp
Drinking those moments when
The blackness would hit me and the void would be calling
Let’s do the time warp again…
Let’s do the time warp again!

Tonight’s episode centers around the perception of time and Desmond. On the island, time is clocked at a different rate than the outside world. Tonight, Desmond was all over the place and all over time and proves my Lost theory without any doubt.

Just what is my theory….. I’ll tell you in a Lost island minute.
Although it appears the survivors of Oceanic flight 815 are on a tropical island, they are being deceived. There is no island. The survivors are in a virtual reality laboratory. All the castaways are interconnected to one another sharing each others thoughts, memories, and feelings. While in this virtual reality laboratory, a battery of physical and mental experiments are performed on them. And who is behind all this other than the mysterious government men? Aliens of course.

On the chopper, Desmond realized he was not supposed to be there, tries to get out, but fails. He does not know who Sayid is and is confused. Thus Desmond’s time travel journey begins. He is back in 1996, in the army. At the auction house seeking Penny’s father, at Penny’s house trying to explain to her what is happening, and the kicker, he is told in the future by Daniel Farraday to go back in the past and visit him and give him a message.

Desmond does as told, tells Daniel the numbers and code name Eloise, and Daniel believes him. In the office, Daniel explains that not the physical body travels in time, but only the consciousness.

To my theory. Virtual reality. I stated from the start, that the survivors were not really on the island, that they were in a lab all interconnected as a battery of tests were performed on them. Did you all take notice when Daniel conducted the experiment with the rat Eloise. And what he told Desmond. That the rate didn’t travel in time, only it’s consciousness. Just like the survivors on the island.

As I stated earlier, Desmond is beginning to understand where he is and what is happening to him. Tonight, I think he received the last piece of the puzzle, (His anchor – Penny) and I believe will be able to control what is going to happen in the future because he has already been there.

Once again, when in a virtual reality lab, time has no meaning, a minute could be interpreted as an hour, a day, week, month, or year. Case in point. When Desmond winked out in Daniel’s office, he said he was gone for about five minutes. Daniel told him that in reality, he was gone 75 minutes. To Des, 5 minutes, to Daniel, 75 minutes.

And, when the chopper left, they didn’t make contact for over a day, Jack was worried, but when Sayid Called, it was only an hour. Time is fleeting indeed. Now you know why I selected Time Warp from the Rocky Horror Picture Show for tonight’s title and music selection.

Tidbits open for discussion in tonight’s episode:

The radio operator on the ship is having the same type of flashes as Desmond.

The auction, the captains log of the Black Rock ship, #755 auction number, owned by Hanso.

Daniel told Desmond to tell him in the past to set the device to 2.342 and 11 megahertz. Notice the 2342 is part of the infamous Lost numbers.

Staying with the numbers, Desmond went back 8 years, from 2004 to 1996, which is 8 years, which is another one of the infamous Lost numbers.

Penny was different at first tonight. She seemed to have given up on Desmond, wanted to move on. Only when Desmond traveled back to the past did he change her mind. And with that, changed the past. So effectively, the future could also be changed.

But, Daniel told Desmond that you cannot change the future. but, if you change the past, the future doesn’t exist yet, thus effectively changing it as Desmond did.

Until next week, get Lost.

It’s just a jump to the left
And then a step to the right
Put your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
But it’s the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane,
Let’s do the Time Warp again!

It’s so dreamy, oh fantasy free me
So you can’t see me, no not at all
In another dimension, with voyeuristic intention
Well-secluded, I see all
With a bit of a mind flip
You’re into the time slip
And nothing can ever be the same
You’re spaced out on sensation, like you’re under sedation
Let’s do the Time Warp again!

Well I was walking down the street just a-having a think
When a snake of a guy gave me an evil wink
He shook me up, he took me by surprise
He had a pickup truck and the devil’s eyes.
He stared at me and I felt a change
Time meant nothing, never would again
Let’s do the Time Warp again!

    Interesting ideas.

So can we confirm that only Desmond can travel through time, as nobody else is evidently affected? And Desmond, along with the crazy guy who finally died, have the flashbacks because of the explosion from season 2. The guy also mentioned him and another crew member went to the island, but his friend had died for some reason afterwards.

And who is Ben’s man on the ship?

Also, the whole virtual reality theory seems to be a cop out if that were even the answer. It’s got to have something to do with the location of the island.
And what’s the significance of the end? Faraday is also able to travel?
    Great episode though.

I thank god for this site when I more often than not want to rip my living room apart after one of these episodes. Not sure how I feel about this episode. Took me back to the Desmond-centric episode early in season 3 and I was not amused.

I’ll have a more detailed response to your theories once I’ve slept… but I’ll still trying to figure out how Des is Faraday’s constant after one encounter in the past…

  4. LOTGK said

    Przn Rug,
Just because my Virtual Reality theory fits perfectly doesn’t mean it’s a cop out. It means it is a working theory. Is it the correct one? I have said long ago that it has a one in a million shot at being the correct one. Still, the theory holds true and last night’s episode bolsters my stance quite nicely.

  5. maximus said

This was possibly the best episode to date. I believe that there is a chance that this could all be virtual reality but it would be a disappointment. I believe that the show is about the theory of hyper-time or hypertime. Which also relates to time travel and hypermathematics. Faraday, a math genius, has been attempting to perfect this theory for years. There have been movies on this and DC Comics actually introduced a version of this theory as well. Scientists have explained it more as paralell universes existing in different dimensions of time. This explains why the helicopter has to follow an exact path back to the ship. Some how the copter falls off course and slips into an alternate dimension of time. What seemed like 20 minutes to the passengers in the copter was over a day to the folks on the island. Now much of this theory is that it is the conscious mind travels through time and not the body. This was explained with the white lab rat. Locke’s mind traveled to the past when he was physically able to walk and as we all know the mind is an incredible thing. This explains the healing powers of the island. There is a lot more to think about and the show is amazing. Keep up the good work. Check out hypertime and hypermathematics. I also compare the location of the island to the location of the ship in the Philadelphia Experiment. Check it out yourselves, I have made this too long a read already.

Long time reader 1st post..i would be severly disappointed in the lost writers if the virtual reality deal were true..Its just so easy of a end to everything.

In any case..was good see some someone get some happiness on this show..had good vibes

  7. Da Man said

an episode without Jack being the center, love it.

  8. Dolly said

I love your theory! This would completely explain Jacob. After the show, I was wondering how Jacob fit in to the time travel scenario, since he doesn’t exist bodily and not everyone can hear him.

Now, after reading your theory, Jacob could be someone in the lab, a technician, not a participant (maybe Daniel?), trying to give instructions. Hence the reason at season 3’s end when John tells Jack that they are not supposed to call the boat and leave the island. John makes it sound like he’s getting insider information and that he’s just not stating his opinion.

    1st time poster….thank you.

I think the virtual reality theory holds alot of water. I’m not sure I’m buying the alien part…We’ve seen no mention of aliens – or did I miss something?

Just a point, not sure if it matters: I’m not sure Desmond can be counted as one of the Oceanic 6…he wasn’t on the plane. Can’t wait to see if it’s explained later, “the Oceanic 6 + that random other guy.”

  10. Lori said

I loved this episode, I think it was right up there in my top 5 so far.
But I am still utterly confused.

  11. maximus said

BTW, one of the DC Comics characters who has traveled through hypertime is King Faraday. Yes Faraday. No joke.

  12. Lori said

there is no question that most of the names on that show have a hidden meaning.
Its going to be so fun to see how this all plays out

  13. Przn Rug said

I’m well aware of you saying its one of many theories and props to you for sticking with though all these seasons. But it’s still a cop out on the producers/writers part if it were true. With this much depth thus far, they should be more creative.

And aliens have been referenced to (to Sawyer). As soon as I heard, I though the show was sending a message to LOTGK saying “Nope!”

And there are massive amounts of coincidences which I guess actually aren’t coincidences since the intelligent writers are aware of them and purposely attempt to clue in those who look for other layers within the show.

  14. LOTGK said

Thing is Przn Rug, if it does turn out to be a quantum physics scenario that the average viewer would not understand, there will be plenty more angry people than with my theory.
My theory has substance, it has legs (Like Locke) and so far, it holds true.

About the alien runway mention. I highly doubt that the writers targeted my modest little blog. If so, that would be stupendous.

And just in case if any Lost writers are reading this. If you are doing shoutouts, how’s about mention the LOTGK, either scribbled in the sand, in the clouds, on a piece of wreckage, anything.
    Now that would be cool.

  15. Jarred said

i have a little theory concerning the lost time odditities, just a longshot, Here goes.. i base this theory of the previous episode with desmond. So jack started complaning, “whats taking them so long they left a day and a half ago” It was then brought up that the flight was 40 miles and was supposed to take only 20 min.. Ahh bingo there it is. Therefore 36 hours on the island= TWENTY MINUTES in real life. After calculating it all out that means that 108 days on the island = 24 hours in real time. I think but im not completely sure that they have been gone a total of 90 ISLAND days therefore making them been gone in real time less than one day!!! oo wait theres more coiencidentally the numbers, 4, 18, 15,16, 23, and 42. all add up to 108 yep its true. Im just saying its a theory but take a closer look if ya can

  16. lisa said

It was exciting while reading, however, the numbers you listed add up to 118, not 108. Not sure if you had the numbers wrong or the answer wrong.

  17. Jarred said

o its supposed to be 8 not 18 sorry

  18. Jill said

I think from the episode last night, with the time travel etc.. woudl that explain why Ben’s “other friend NEVER aged since we saw him in flashbacks when ben was younger? And Would this explain why Mikael NEVER DIES???? Any insight?

  19. Beezonit said

I agree with your theory. I think we, the human race, are being conditioned for a shift in consciousness, perhaps around the date of 12/21/2012. The show, Lost, seems to be heading in that direction. We create our own reality through our conscious thoughts. Read or watch “The Secret or What The Bleep Do We Know”.

Doesn’t it kinda feel like we are being experimented on by our government or “secret government”? Chem-trails, H.A.A.R.P., genetically modified foods, aspartame, mercury in vaccines, fluoridation in the water, propaganda and mind control!

Love this site and and your theory.

  20. Lori said

Jarred, thank you for your math skills 🙂
I would have never figured out they the time differences on my own, I suck at math

  21. LOTGK said

    And just keep in mind.
If you subtract 42 from 108, you get a smaller number.

  22. Lori said

dont confuse me more Lotgk, please 🙂

  23. LOTGK said

    Which one are you Emma?

Of course the Curator remembers you.

  24. canadian_girl said

I’m a long time reader (about a year now) and a first time poster!
I come here to read your updates after every LOST episode, I love them!
I found a cool theory on a website that talks about light and dark and that the island is a mirror image of Earth.

What do you think LOTGK ? Does it make you want to change up your theory a bit ? 😉

  25. Mahone said

I just read all of Canadian Girl’s link there and have to be totally honest and say that is the most logical answer I’ve heard sorry LOTGK but yours is a little too out there as it doesn’t explain how all different people got taken by the ALIENS.

Fair play Canadian girl how’d you find that page cause its a great read.

  26. LOTGK said

Canadian girl, no, it doesn’t make me want to change my theory one single bit.
I have stuck with this theory from day one, and it is a sound theory. Each episode fortifies the theory.

I have read hundreds of theories, and most of them are very good and entertaining, and one of them is going to be the right one.

Is it mine? Highly doubt it as I have said a long time ago.

Mahone, I have explained in detail how the castaways were selected and subsequently taken. Please reread the previous updates. you will see the logic behind the theory then.

  27. Przn Rug said

I don’t believe it’s a virtual reality test, but as LOTGK pointed out, the reasoning that will be eventually given must make sense somehow to the audience. For that reason alone I think the alternative dark/light moon/ earth theory is far too advanced for the average viewer.

  28. canadian_girl said

Hey Mahone glad you like it, I found it through another blog.

I like the mirror theory because it has great specific examples, while I find the virtual reality a little too vague and all encompasing. Don’t get me wrong.. it’s a good theory, but I think everything in the show can be explained by…. “oh it’s a test, they’re actually in a lab”. The light and dark has really cool specifics.
I read somewhere that the whole show’s purpose can be explained in the first 15 minutes of the pilot… The other website has a great answer for that too.

PS: LOTGK.. I know you would never want to change your theory… I was just teasing you 😉

  29. Informant #S179 said

To fully understand Desmond’s signifigance and to reveal some possibilties for the island as a whole, read up on the Philadelphia Expermient.

The VR theory is definitely a cop out. The island is on an area wehre the differnces in polar magnetism touch (ie +/-). The bermuda triangle is also one of these areas.

The rat’s consciousness being transferred supports this. Brain activity has a wavelength that is recordable and measurable. If you could copy the detailed brain wave activity and put it on a magnetic carrier wave that could be temporally manipulated, you may get the effect Farraday produced (in the Lostverse, that is).

Or VR that we all thought of right away and have dismissed because its too simple and dissappointing. Whatever…….

  30. LOTGK said

Informant, how do you know “the island is on an area wehre the differnces in polar magnetism touch.” Or is this merely a theory of someone’s you have read before?
Because of a fabled Philadelphia experiment the military supposedly conducted with magnetism?
To me, that sounds like a cop out.

  31. DAN said

Im still confused about the giant foot on the island that the losties saw while on the boat? nothing has ever been mentioned about it? How come when Desmond talked to Penny on the Phone she said she had been searching for him for 3 years which would make it 2007 but on the boat the calander said 2004 meaning she is in the future and he is in the past whilst talking. Your theory sounds good LOTGK Im still thinking of other theorys.
I hear Episode 7 will shed light on Sun’s unborn childs future/fate and that Episode 6 is about Juliet and her former lover Goodwin (who was killed) who will make an apperance but don’t know if its as a falshback or something else

  32. Lori said

Remember the scene where Desmond and Jack were running up and down the stairs and Jack hurt his knee or something?
I think that scene was after 1996.
And Penny showed up there right before Jack and Desmond met.
And Desmond went on that race around the world to prove something to Penny’s father.
So apparently they saw eachother after that meeting in 1996.

and Dan, in the Lost world, its still 2004. They crashed in 04, and they have only been there for 94 days.
Desmond had been on the island for 3 years, since 2001.
Penny has been looking for him since 2001.

  33. Lori said

oh, and if you watch season 3 on video, with comentary, the producers say that the foot will probably not be brought up again, it was just something they threw in there to add a little more mystery.
It probably wont get brought up again

  34. LOTGK said

Then perhaps the foot is the key to the mystery.

  35. DAN said

The statue may be of the greek god Apollo. This would be related to the fact that the only non-dharma brand of food on the island are Apollo brand candy bars. The viral marketing website for APOLLO said that they had a secret factory in a remote location. Could the island have once been a candy factory? That would be strange, but…it could explain the statue.

  36. DAN said

Both Smith’s and Shelly’s poems are about the irony of power–and the end of powerful civilizations (especially those which think they are utopian), which history has shown always comes about after a time. Perhaps this is not an unfinished or mostly-destroyed statue, but rather was built this way by the DHARMA Initiative after Smith’s “Stupendous Leg of Granite, Discovered Standing by Itself.” This could easily be connected to many themes we are seeing emerge–that would either have significance to the characters who built the statue or the writers giving nuance to the existence of the statue on the Island. While not a direct reference, the statue may be meant to be reminiscent of either of these poems. Ozymandias is also the name of a central character in the Watchmen Comics, of which the producers are big fans. In Watchmen, Ozymandias (a.k.a. Adrian Veidt) plans to force the world into his idea of a utopia through a planned large-scale crisis brought on by a genetically-engineered monster–which, he claims, will “sacrifice” a few people to supposedly save the human race from destroying itself through nuclear holocaust. He creates a secret, climate-controlled base with a large monitoring room in Antarctica where he organizes his plot. There are many seeming allusions to this character in Watchmen (and the story’s themes) already, so this statue may well be alluding to the Shelley/Smith poems. The Colossus of Rhodes represented Apollo, and the Temple of Artemis was near it (Ben tells Richard Alpert to take the others to the temple). Both are Wonders of the Ancient World. I bet there will be more statues near the temple and when will we see the others again?

  37. DAN said

and lastley on the foot – It is said that humans’ last toe will dissapear eventually as a result of evolution. Thus, the statue might resemble some human from a forthcoming age. Note the painting Hurley sees in Jacob’s window in The Beginning of the End; it shows what seems to be a dog with some type of humanoid upper body, sitting with its hands folded in front of it. Maybe four-toed dog-men don’t exist, but maybe they do. Maybe if the Others have been on the island long enough, four-toed dog-men might be a part of the narrative that goes along with their religion, or whatever passes for it.

  38. LOTGK said

I know what the foot actually is. Seriously, I do. It will appear in a special lost update coming soon to a grassy knoll near you.

  39. LOTGK said

And Dan, you are very close to your theory about a utopian society that crumbles…..

  40. Lori said

Dan, I like you, you make me think…

I have deleted two posters from this blog.
Emma and Slowyota are one in the same people and if history serves us correct, she was ready to stir up her trolling business once again.

On the old website, he/she became the troll incarnate and would incite flame wars by posting under several names calling other posters stupid, idiots, and totally disagreeing with almost everyone’s opinion. Not just mine, but everyone’s.

I finally had to moderate her and finally delete and block her.

For now, I have put her on moderation here. Hopefully, he/she will play nice and her comments will appear.

Trust me on this Lost fans, he/she attempted to destroy the fun and adventure we were all having at the old website. I will not let that happen here.

Faraday…….invented the electro magnet didn`t he?

  45. LOTGK said

I don’t know but I believe he did stay at a Holiday Inn the night before he boarded the freighter…..

  46. Gary said

No i mean Michael Faraday, the discoverer of electro-magnetic induction, electro-magnetic rotations, the magneto-optical effect, diamagnetism, field theory and much else besides, was born in Newington Butts (the area of London now known as the Elephant and Castle) on 22 September 1791. Mmmmm that date seems familiar……….then Dan Faraday turns up on the island………is it me or is there a connection here?

  47. Gary said

    ok then its me lol

  48. Lori said

I believe there is a connection.
The producers used the name Faraday because of what Michael Faraday invented.
They do this with a lot of names on the show.
Its fun to research the names a little 🙂

  49. LOTGK said

    Good catch Gary.
Perhaps he is the original Faraday and has been on and off the island for two centuries.
