Game 14: Vikings Defeat Bears 20-13

Posted by LOTGK on December 18, 2007

Vikings Defense Stuffs Chicago

The Minnesota Vikings are 8-6 with a five game winning streak. Last night, on Monday night football, the Vikings came out in all purple, jerseys and pants for the first time that I can remember. (And I was around when the pyramids were being built) The opponent, the Chicago Bears, NFC champions who’s playoff hopes were still dimly alive but playing for pride. Linebacker Brian Urlacher made it clear that Adrian Peterson, Vikings rookie running back, who torched the Bears in their first meeting rushing for 224 yards, the most ever against the Bears in their history, would not have a repeat performance.

The Vikings did win the game, 20-13 but the Bears defense played like their former monsters of the midway selves. Urlacher was all over the field disrupting pass plays, recorded two sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. They came to do a job and set out to complete their mission. And they did to an extent. Peterson did score twice, and Jackson did pass for 249 yards, a career high, but limited Peterson to only 78 yards rushing on 20 attempts.

But it was the Minnesota defense that shined last night. They allowed only 11 first downs and 209 total net yards. The Bears were a pitiful 1-14 on third down conversions. The other Adrian Peterson, Bears running back, had only 26 yards rushing on 9 attempts confirming once again that no one runs against the Vikings defense.

Tarvaris Jackson is 8-2 as a starter this season. Incredible isn’t it? Three interceptions, several poor choices, and a fumble, and still, the Vikings pull out a victory. Give an assist to Bollinger for the 2 point conversion. And to Darren Sharper for the interception to seal the deal ending the Bears come back.

Worried about Sidney Rice going down. Hope he is able to get back on the field next week.
Hey #84, when you get the kickoff, quit dancing and take it upfield. Yes, we know you took one the distance a week before, but last night, those were subpar returns.

Tarvaris, slide after you get the yardage when you scramble. You got injured yet again last night. if you are to lead the team into the playoffs, you must be healthy.

Final Thoughts:

The Vikings have won five games in a row. To win the super bowl, they must win 6 more in a row! Can they do it? Hell yea! Will they do it? Hell! In the Vikings winning streak, they beat only one playoff caliber team, the Giants, and the rest of the wins against teams 500 or under.

If the Vikings want to entertain playoff success, Tarvaris Jackson is the key. You can guarantee that opposing defenses will stack the box to stop Peterson and force Jackson to pass to beat them. With single coverage on the wide out, smart decisions and the quick release of the ball, and th Vikings can win. Dunder plays like last night and the Vikings won’t be so lucky.

The Redskins are next week, and they need a win or they’re done. They will be gunning for Jackson. The simple game plan. Give the ball to Peterson 25 times and will get 200 yards rushing and the win for the Vikings.

Dare the Thunder say, Playoff Bound!!!

I can feel it, the Vikings are playoff bound. Peterson and the defense in the playoffs, anything can happen.

I read this today on the Sporting News:

“Peterson becomes the first Vikings rookie since Randy Moss (1993) and first Vikings rookie running back since Chuck Foreman (1973) to be named to the Pro Bowl.”

“The Vikings have the No. 1 rushing offense in the league, and that success has helped get center Matt Birk and guard”

What a god he is and he is only just strating, if he can avoid more injuries…dammmm.

Adrian Peterson fan till the end.

    Mike.

And the end being Peterson hoisting the MVP super bowl trophy this coming February.

I compared Peterson to Chuck Foreman at the beginning of the season, before the real games began. And he exceeded my expectations. I predicted a 1200 yard rushing and 10 TD season.
It’s good to be wrong sometimes….
