Best Halloween Musical Scores

Posted by LOTGK on October 31, 2007

Best Halloween Musical Scores According To The Grassy Knoll Institute

This list is in no particular order and is for you to decide which is your favorite.

Monster Mash by Bobby Boris Pickett.
The ultimate classic tune mentions all the monsters, Werewolf, Mummy, Dracula, Frankenstein, even Igor. This song is to Halloween as Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer is to Christmas.

Tubular Bells (The Exorcist Theme Song) by Mike Oldfield
The Exorcist was one of the best horror flicks of all time and the theme song is a big part of it. Just playing this tune sends chills up your spine.

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Unbelievable that a Michael Jackson tune found it’s way onto the Grassy Knoll Institute but Thriller makes the cut for several reasons. One, Thriller has several classic Halloween themes including “I Was A Teenage Werewolf” and of course pays homage to zombies with George Romero’s Night Of The Living Dead movie. And second, Vincent Price, one of the legends of horror movies, leaves his trade mark laugh at the end of the song.

Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show
It’s just a jump to the left,
And then a step to the right.
With your hands on your hips,
You bring your knees in tight.
But it’s the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane,
Let’s do the Time Warp again!

Spooky by Classics Four
Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you.

Swamp Witch by Jim Stafford
Don’t come lookin again. The townsfolk don’t like the witch Haddy and they shun her. One day the town gets sick and the folks think Haddy has something to do with it. Finally, after the doctor dies the folks have no hope left, they find a vat of gurgling brew that the whole town takes a sip of and the very next day, the fever went away and the town was cured.

Ghostbusters by Ray parker Jr.
Who you gonna call?
Go get her Ray.
Get her. That’s your plan? Get her.
It’s the Stay Puft marsh mellow man.
What about the twinkie?

Werewolves Of London by Warren Zevon
And his hair was perfect. Good flick as well but perhaps Zevons Excitable Boy should have found it’s way on this list.

Don’t Fear The Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult
Great opening tune for Stephen Kings, The Stand, a classic tale of good vs evil, God vs the Devil.

Fur Elise (Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown) Beethoven
One year, Linus will get to meet the Great Pumpkin, as he will finally have the most sincerest pumpkin patch in the land

Twilight Zone Theme
Rod Serling created a Sci-Fi horror television series in 1959 that has not been surpassed yet. From making deals with the devil, being eaten by giant alien cannibals, (It’s a cook book!) to tempting fate and sometimes winning. A sure fire Halloween program.

Frankenstein by Edgar Winter Group
Hard rock tune without any lyrics, but hey, the title is Frankenstein, and it’s a kick ass tune, so it belongs here.

The Blob by The Five Blobs.
From the 1950’s movie, The Blob, a gelatin like mass from space wreaks havoc on a small town absorbing every person it touches. A classic Halloween song and movie for sure.

Welcome To My Nightmare by Alice Cooper
The original Fright Shock Rocker. From hanging himself on stage, to beheading himself, to playing with bloody baby parts on stage, Alice Cooper is the uncontested king of Halloween rock and roll.

“Halloween” the movie Theme By John Carpenter
A perfect score to a perfect movie for Halloween ironically and aptly named Halloween. Scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis was awesome as she was stalked by Michael Meyers all the while the theme music played in the back ground.

Psycho Theme by Alfred Hitchcock
Possibly the most recognized music score in Halloween and horror history. The shower scene brings the music home.

Tocatta And Fugee by Bach
This erie organ music score was used for many an old time horror movies. From silent movies, when the orchestra played “Live” at the movie theaters, to the 40’s and 50’s monster movies.

Phantom Of The Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber
A brilliant musical score that tells a tale of a misunderstood phantom in love with an opera singer. the powerful music empowers the Broadway play to be the longest running play in history.

There you have it folks. The greatest Halloween musical scores in history. Did I leave any out? Let me know zombies….

Theme to Jaws. Great horror movie.

I would put Carpenter’s Halloween theme as one of the top 3 three themes of all time. Also, if you get a chance to hear Girls Under Glass version of the Halloween theme, it total kicks ass. This track appears on their “Nightmare” album back from 1999.

Carpenters Halloween is Halloween. When you hear that music, you only think of Halloween, not other Science fiction movies, or horror movies, or slasher, but good old terror Halloween.

Hello, Dr. Elmo’s new Halloween CD has 2 or 3 songs that are right up there. You should check out The Witch and the Toad, or Pointy the Pyramid Pumpkin. In fact, The Fly is now posted at Dr. Elmo’s website.

I’d be happy to send you the CD if you give me youor address.
