Beatles – Revolver Album – 1966

Posted by LOTGK on November 27, 2010

Beatles Revolver Cover

The Beatles Revolver album was released in the Summer of 1966, an album where the Beatles introduced their psychedelic sound and lyrics. It was also part of the ‘Paul Is Dead’ hoax that the band was playing on the public. (It is alleged that Paul McCartney died in a car crash and John, George, and Ringo covered the death up and replaced Paul with a look-a-like)
____________________________________________________________

Beatles Revolver Back Cover

The back cover is set in a dark recording studio with the Fab Four sitting comfortably wearing sunglasses in the dark.

Revolver offered 11 tracks with Paul on lead vocals on five of them, George on three tracks, Jon on two, and Ringo with one.

Side One Tracks: 1) Taxman 2) Eleanor Rigby 3) Love You To 4) Here There And everywhere 5) Yellow Submarine 6) She Said She Said

Side Two Tracks: 1) Good Day Sunshine 2) For No One 3) I Want To Tell You 4) Got To Get You into My Life 5) Tomorrow Never Knows

The song Got To Get You Into My Life angered parents in the 1960′s. They believed the lyrics spoke of heroin drug addiction and that the Beatles condoned the use. The exact lyrics are below. You be the judge.

I was alone, I took a ride,
I didn’t know what I would find there
Another road where maybe I could see another kind of mind there

Ooh, then I suddenly see you,
Ooh, did I tell you I need you
Every single day of my life

You didn’t run, you didn’t lie
You knew I wanted just to hold you
Had you gone, you knew in time, we’d meet again
For I had told you

Ooh, you were meant to be near me
Ooh, and I want you hear me
Say we’ll be together every day

Got to get you into my life

What can I do, what can I be,
When I’m with you I want to stay there
If I’m true I’ll never leave
And if I do I know the way there

Ooh, then I suddenly see you,
Ooh, did I tell you I need you
Every single day of my life

Got to get you into my life
Got to get you into my life

I was alone, I took a ride,
I didn’t know what I would find there
Another road where maybe I could see another kind of mind there

Then suddenly I see you,
Did I tell you I need you
Every single day…

Rolling Stones – Hot Rocks 1964-1971

Posted by LOTGK on June 14, 2009

stoneshotrocks01

Late in 1971, a greatest hits double album of the Rolling Stones was released in the United States. It was titled, The Rolling Stones, Hot Rocks 1964-1971. It became one of the best selling selling albums not just for the Stones, but for all rock albums. And this was an album the Stones didn’t want released.

The album cover depicts a profile of Mick Jagger expanding to the borders of the album. No other hint on the title of the record or the band name.

stoneshotrocks02

The inside left cover is dominated by a picture of Mick Jagger. This double album truly is a Rolling Stones Greatest Hits. Just check out the songs listed on the left side.

Side One: 1) Time Is On My Side 2) Heart Of Stone 3) Play With Fire 4) (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction 5) As Tears Go By 6) Get Off of My Cloud

Side Two: 7) Mother’s Little Helper 8 ) 19th Nervous Breakdown 9) Paint It Black 10) Under My Thumb 11) Ruby Tuesday 12) Let’s Spend The Night Together

Side Three: 13) Jumping Jack Flash 14) Street Fighting Man 15) Sympathy For The Devil 16) Honky Tonk Women 17) Gimme Shelter

Side Four: 18) Midnight Rambler 19) You Can’t Always Get what You Want 20) Brown Sugar 21) Wild Horses

stoneshotrocks03

The inside right cover is a compilation of the band members of the Stones. The original members were Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood. Jones died July of 1969.

stoneshotrocks04

The back cover has the band members set against a wall of a castle. At first glance, one would think they were dressed in Medieval attire. But look again. That is how they dressed in the 60′s. I believe this is where Austin Powers got his English look.
stoneshotrocks05

The front sleeve did more than just protect the vinyl, it advertised the record labels current albums in their stable.
stoneshotrocks06

The back sleeve is more of the same. Showcasing the other albums under contract by the record label. I have a few of these other albums as well.

stoneshotrocks07

The London Record label. Here is the actual vinyl of one of the most popular Rolling Stones album. It certainly contains Hot Rock tracks of the Stones. Sometimes, you can get what you want.

Yes – Fragile – 1972

Posted by LOTGK on June 1, 2008

Yes Fragile 1972 Album

Fragile Yes Album 1972

Atlantic Record Company had a progressive rock band on their hands. This band, named Yes, had a unique blend of music melding both classical instruments with the more traditional rock staples of drums and guitars. That blend is the result of the Fragile album.

The left inside cover has the lyrics to the album. One of the hit songs, Round About was always clouded with incorrect lyrics. Below, is the exact lyrics taken from the album jacket.

I’ll be the round about
The words will make you out ‘n’ out
You change the day your way
Call it morning driving thru the sound and in and out the valley

The music dance and sing
They make the children really ring
I spend the day your way
Call it morning driving thru the sound and in and out the valley

In and around the lake
Mountains come out of the sky and they stand there
One mile over we’ll be there and we’ll see you
Ten true summers we’ll be there and laughing too
Twenty four before my love you’ll see I’ll be there with you

I will remember you
Your silhouette will charge the view
Of distance atmosphere
Call it morning driving thru the sound and even in the valley

Along the drifting cloud the eagle searching down on the land
Catching the swirling wind the sailor sees the rim of the land
The eagles dancing wings create as weather spins out of hand
Go closer hold the land feel partly no more than grains of sand
We stand to lose all time a thousand answers by in our hand
Next to your deeper fears we stand
Surrounded by a millions years

The right inside jacket noted the song titles.
Side One:
1 Roundabout
2 Cans And Brahms
3 We Have heaven
4 South Side Of The Sky

Side Two:
1 Five Per Cent For Nothing
2 Long Distance Runaway
3 The Fish
4 Mood For The Day
5 Heart of the Sunrise

Meet The Band:
John Anderson – Vocals
Bill Bruford – Drums, Percussion
Steve Howe – Electric and Acoustic Guitars, Vocals
Chris Squire – Bass Guitars, Vocals
Rick Wakeman – Organ, Grand Piano

The back cover depicts the earth, some sort of ship… It reminds me of the album art of Boston’s debut album in 1976. they had a giant space ship hurtling away from an exploding earth. I can only describe the air ship as a whale with sails attached to it.

The album protective sleeve advertises the other artists signed by Atlantic records. Some of the famous bands are the Rolling Stones,…

The flip side protective cover offers even more artists signed by Atlantic. I have a good many of these albums and they will appear in future updates.

Until then, I recommend buying the Yes CD or rescuing the old vinyl album from your basement as I have done. Slap it on the turntable and turn the volume up loud and let the album rock. Enjoy!

Beach Boys – Endless Summer 1974

Posted by LOTGK on December 10, 2007

The 1960′s music world was dominated by the British invasion of The Beatles and the Rolling Stones as they churned out number one hit after number one hit. But the tide slowly turned starting on the West coast and steadily spreading throughout the nation. The Beach Boys and their “Surfer Sound” gathered a following of teeny boppers not just from California, but the entire nation. In 1974, Endless Summer, a double album greatest hits on Capital records was released. It was a must have rock and roll album with almost all the best Beach Boys tunes.

The left inside jacket is a cartoonish depiction of the California beach with a row boat, life preserver, a cartoon picture of one of the band members, and the listing of the album track titles.Side One:
Surfin Safari
Surfer Girl
Catch A Wave
The Warmth Of The Sun
Surfin U.S.A.

Side Two:
Be true To Your School
Little Deuce Coupe
In My Room
Shut Down
Fun, Fun, Fun

Side Three:
I Get Around
The Girls On The Beach
Wendy
Let Him Run Wild
Don’t Worry Baby

Side Four:
California Girls
Girl Don’t Tell Me
Help Me Rhonda
You’re So Good To Me
All Summer Long

The right side of the inside cover is a continuation of the cartoonish California beach scene with a tanned muscle bound weightlifter and a hot dog stand.

The back cover has two more cartoon pictures of the band members, a bi-plane, penguin, and a Sgt. Rock comic book plus another listing of the album tracks.
