KFC Chicken Strip Dinner

Posted by LOTGK on August 29, 2009

This Is Considered A Dinner!

This Is Considered A Dinner!

This is what Kentucky Fried Chicken considers a dinner! Pictured left, the three piece chicken strip meal. The meal consisted of three strips of breaded chicken, one biscuit, and one side which I selected mashed potatoes with gravy. It was all tossed packed in this handy box.

I will say that the chicken, although not healthy or good for you, did taste good. (600 plus calories, 27 fat grams, 80 gram of cholesterol, 54 carbs) As well as the biscuit and mashed potatoes. You can see by the photo how the food was packaged. Not the best as the grease from the chicken was beginning to ooze through the cardboard. The cost was $5 dollars, which is respectable I suppose.

The Grassy Knoll Institute scores 2.75 out of 5 shots and recommends KFC chicken strip meal for dinner.

Anna Paquin – Sci Fi Sexy Siren

Posted by LOTGK on August 27, 2009

sookie00

Anna Paquin, 27 year old veteran of Sci-Fi genre movies has struck gold playing Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress at Merlotte’s, in the hit HBO series, True Blood. Sookie is in love with Bill Compton, a 173 year old vampire who comes home to roost in his home town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. True Blood has more than vampires, as the second season introduced shape shifters demons from hell. And don’t forget that Sookie is a mind reader.

I’d ramble on about Anna starring in the Halloween horror movie, Trick Or Treat or playing Rogue in the X-Men trilogy series but we all know why we’re here. Enjoy the photo’s.

Lost Update: The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street

Lost In The Twilight Zone - Summer Of Lost 2009

Lost In The Twilight Zone - Summer Of Lost 2009

Summer of Lost Update 08/25/2009

Tonight we continue our search for what we perceive as truth, reality, found, and Lost as The Twilight Zone and ABC’s Lost intermingle as we explore my alternate theory and perhaps reality itself.

Some Background Before we Proceed:

The Twilight Zone was a classic science fiction television series created by Rod Serling that aired from 1959 to 1964. Each episode intertwined the supernatural with topical moral events in today’s society ending with a twist convoluting the outcome. The same can be said about ABC Lost. The castaways are more than just stranded on an island. There are mysterious forces at work of powers unknown. And just like the Twilight Zone, a twist is inserted in the story convoluting the outcome.

The Twilight Zone had a standard format. Each episode began with a prologue, usually with the host, Rod Serling doing the voice over introducing the characters and setting. At the end of the show, Serling would offer up a final narration of what the viewer just witnessed.

Tonight’s Twilight Zone Lost offering is titled,
The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street, season 1, episode 22, 1960

Destination Quite Unknown

Destination Quite Unknown

The Prologue:
Maple Street, USA. Late Summer. A tree-lined little world of front porch gliders, barbecues, the laughter of children, and the bell of an ice cream vendor. At the sound of the roar and a flash of light, it will be precisely 6:43 PM on Maple Street.

This is Maple Street on a late Saturday afternoon. Maple Street, in the last calm and reflective moments…before the monsters came.

Synopsis:
The episode begins as a typical Summer day. Kids playing, grown ups gathering. Then a dark shadow crawls across the sky and a flash of light and a loud noise is heard before everything goes dark. A complete power outage has occurred including the residents cars. The adults get together to discuss what happened and what they plan on doing about it. Pete Van Horn volunteers to investigate to see if the power outage is city wide or just the neighborhood.

Just after Pete leaves a young boy claims he knows what is happening. He shows the adults one of his comic books with a story about aliens coming down, assuming human appearance, and living in the neighborhood for a while – while they plan their attack.

At first the adults don’t believe the story until one of the neighbor’s lights go on in his house. Then someone else’s car starts for no reason. As things are going on and off randomly the people start to accuse each other of being the aliens. The fear and hostility of the neighborhood grows. When Pete Van Horn comes back one of the neighbors shoots him because he thought he was an alien.

As a full-scale riot breaks out, the camera pans outward and upward revealing two aliens sitting atop a hill overlooking Maple Street. They comment on how all they need to do is switch on and off a few lights and the people of Earth will destroy themselves.

Epilogue:
The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices. To be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudices can kill, and suspicion can destroy, and the frightened, thoughtless search for a scapegoat has a fallout all of its own: for the children, and the children yet unborn. And the pity of it is that these things can not be confined to the Twilight Zone.

Lost Tie In:
Jacob and the Unknown man seen at the beginning of the season five finale, are the two aliens. They are the ones manipulating mankind, one group of people at a time. They leave the Lost castaways to their own devices with minimum prodding on their part. Then they simply sit back and observe and learn what humanity really is.

Unknown Man: You’re still trying to prove me wrong.
Jacob: You are wrong!
Unknown Man: They come, fight, they destroy, they corrupt. It always ends the same.
Jacob: It only ends once. Anything that happens before that, it’s just progress.

The question before us is simple. Who are the real monsters? The aliens that are manipulating the power on Maple Street? Or perhaps the citizens of Maple street and how fear and prejudice blind us so quickly and completely that we behave like monsters?

I’ll leave that up to you, in the Twilight Zone.

Preseason Game 2: Vikings Defeat Chiefs 17-13

Keep Your Eyes On The Prize Tarvaris

Keep Your Eyes On The Prize Tarvaris

Today, we open this update with a song by Three Dog Night, aptly titled Liar.

I won’t ever leave while you want me to stay
Nothing you could do that would turn me away
Hanging on every word
Believing the things I heard
Being a fool
You’ve taken my life, so take my soul
That’s what you said and I believed it all
I want to be with you as long
As you want me to
I won’t move away
Ain’t that what you said?
Ain’t that what you said?
Ain’t that what you said?
Liar, liar, liar

Three weeks ago Brad Childress held a press conference declaring that he and the Vikings had moved past the Brett Favre saga and would now concentrate on the quarterbacks he had in camp now that Favre himself announced that he would remain retired and would not be joining the Vikings.

That was good news for newly signed Sage Rosenfels, who was told by Childress before he signed his contract that he would be given a legitimate opportunity to compete for the starting job against Tarvaris Jackson.

The Grassy Knoll Institute disgustingly replies:
LIAR…LIAR…LIAR…

Viking fans. We’ve been hoodwinked, held hostage, and lied to and we should not be happy about it. I fear Brad Childress has done a great grievance to the organization and it’s fans. Perhaps the acquisition of Media Whore Brett Favre will help the Vikings win a super bowl but his actions will no doubt have long lasting effects on the team.

No one likes to be lied to. When free agency rolls around next season, perhaps players will re-evaluate a Viking offer if promised to say, compete for a starting position or the promise to play a certain defensive alignment, or to pass more, or run more, or be the key returned. Sometimes it’s not always about the highest bidder. (See T.J. Whosyourmomma)

The Minnesota Vikings came home Friday night and hosted the Kansas City Chiefs in their second pre-season game which was the beginning of the Favre era. Of course Brett Favre started the game after only having two and half days of practice. Here is a trivia question for you. Who caught the first pass from Brett Favre as a Minnesota Viking? Answer: Percy Harvin, hauled in a 5 yard pass. I remember Randy Moss once stated that he wouldn’t mind having Brett Favre throwing passes to him. Sorry Randy, you are on the wrong team.

BTW, Brett Favre’s first pre-season stint with the Vikings numbers were 1-4 passing for 4 yards. However, if you believed what the announcers were spewing, Brett Favre pitched a perfect game. They talked about how comfortable he looked under center. How he was able to scan the defense. How fluid he was dropping back. Pah…leaseeeee! He looked terrible Friday. If it were Sage, Tarvaris, or JD, the byline would have been, Catch the Next Train Out Of Town.

On a side note: Tarvaris Jackson did pitch a perfect game. He went 12-15 for 202 yards and two TD passes. Sage did not play but Booty mopped up and went 6-8 for 61 yards.

Percy Harvin was on the field Friday. He caught two passes, one in traffic and two kick returns. I have to tell you, on the kick offs, I was holding my breath as I was expecting him to break them for TD’s. Yes, he has that much talent, I just hope he stays on the field long enough to showcase it.

Shoutout to the special teams. Last year the Vikings were horrid on special teams, but if the first two pre-season games are any indication, field position should be vastly improved. Plus, once Harvin gets comfortable in the kick return, the special teams will be one of the best.

I can see that this season is going to be all about the Favre. Perhaps the hoopla will die down a bit as the season progresses, unless of course if the Vikings are doing well (Which I expect) then a media frenzy not seen before would emerge. Hell, even John Madden might come out of retirement to announce a few games.

The Vikings have four quarterbacks on the roster currently. Brett Favre by default makes the team. That leaves Rosenfels, Jackson, and Booty. Rosenfels signed a three year contract with guaranteed money and has practiced and played well in training camp. Jackson got off to a rocky start but played very well in Fridays game. That leaves Booty, who has not gotten significant playing time and when he did, he was relegated to 3rd and 4th team sessions. Booty is the odd man out.

I am glad that I got my rookie football card of #4 J.D. Booty.

SKOL VIKINGS!
