Eddie’s Grill Cheeseburger- Geneva On The Lake

Posted by LOTGK on July 13, 2009

Eddies Grill - Geneva On The Lake

Eddies Grill - Geneva On The Lake

Eddie’s Grill is a classic iconic restaurant located at Geneva On The Lake, in Ohio. Established in 1950, Eddie’s Grill is a traditional lunch and dinner stop for thousands of returning patrons, young and old. Eddie’s captured the 1950′s diner mystique and hasn’t changed in all the years I have been eating there. Which is about 45 years now. Anyway, on to the food critique.

Steakburger

Eddie's Grill Famous Steakburger

Last Friday Eddie’s was packed, (SRO) so we decided to get take out instead of waiting an hour for a table inside. There are some nice park benches and picnic tables just across the street so we would be fine.

As you can see, I ordered the cheeseburger and fries. The cost was $6.05 which isn’t bad, not great, but not bad. The cheeseburger was hot, fresh, and very tasty. The patty was of course styled old school, meaning that the patty was smashed down on the grill instead of the pre-made pre-formed patties at most burger joints. The bun was fresh, sesame seeded and not soggy. The french fries were hot, well cooked, and tasted good.

I talked to a few patrons while standing in line and everyone of them said they have been coming to Eddie’s Grill for years. Every time they come to Geneva-On-The-Lake they make sure to stop at Eddie’s for lunch and or dinner. Now that is a testimonial.

The Grassy Knoll Institute scores 4.5 out of 5 shots and recommends Eddies Grill at Geneva On The Lake for lunch and dinner.

The Circus Is Back In Town

Posted by LOTGK on July 8, 2009

vikings saints preview

Sung To The Tune, Greensleeves

Alas, Brett Favre, you do us wrong,
To cast us off discourteously.
For we despised you well and long,
Delighting in your retirement.

Chorus:
Brett Favre with all our might,
Brett Favre we will smite,
Brett Favre he wore green and gold,
And now is our QB Brett Favre.

It’s July and that means the circus is coming to town. But not the circus you attended as a child. For sure, there will be clowns and other entertainment at this circus, but the cost, $300 plus to see the show is entirely to steep. Yes Viking fans, I’m talking about the Brett Favre I’m retired, I’m crying, the Packers did me wrong, now I’m playing again, the Packers don’t want me anymore, now I’m forcing my self on them, now I’m retiring again, now I demand a trade, now I’m a Jet, now I’m mulling retirement again, I’m crying again, now I’m retired, for good again, now I might want to play again, now my shoulder isn’t right, now it is, now I had surgery, now I want to play, now I might play for the Vikings. Yea, that circus.

Say Aye all those who wish the Farve circus would pack up it’s tents and pull out of town. (Aye) Wait a minute, wait a minute. It looks like I got some splaining to do. Simply put, I don’t believe Tarvaris Jackson is the answer at quarterback. Jackson does well in camp, but come game time, money time, he folds. Nor is Sage Rosenfels, 31 year old journeyman quarterback. No offense against Sage, but the Vikings are merely his next whistle stop to his back up quarterback career. John David Booty, totally unknown commodity, is not the answer for 2009 either.

That leaves the circus. Cue the clowns and carnival music. Brett Farve could be the answer if he would quit clowning around. Favre knows the WCO probably better than coach Childress. If he got his timing down with the receivers, and committed to playing instead of tossing out sly replies to Joe Buck to keep us guessing, the Vikings could advance deep into the playoffs.

The Vikings are actively seeking to sign Favre as their quarterback for the 2009 season. On Joe Buck Live, he cozied up to the audience and played his “Will I or won’t I come back to play skit.” (Barf bag please!) Alas, Favre is the better option than Larry, Curly, and Moe. Even at age 39, with all the media baggage he will undoubtedly drag into town, Favre can win more games than lose. Hell, Fsvre might even make John Madden rethink his retirement just so he can come back and announce a few games for Brett.

I know football is a team sport and it takes 53 dedicated players to be successful, but the old cliche, (We’re just one player away from being a top flight team) rings true in the Vikings case. All the pieces of the puzzle are in place, a dominating defense, a tandem of running backs second to none, a solid offensive line, quality receivers, just no one to make it all happen.

Ever since touchdown Tommy Kramer retired, the quarterback position has been the weak link in the Viking armor. Imagine if there were stability at that position in the last ten years. Perhaps the record books would be rewritten. As an example, Joe Montana was the QB for the 49ers for more than a decade, and won 4 super bowls. Terry Bradshaw as well. Troy Aikman, 3 super bowl wins. Hell, Jim Kelly took the Bills to four super bowls. John Elway, two wins. The Giants stuck with Manning and he wins his first super bowl. Ben Roeslisburger has won two super bowls now. Stability doesn’t guarantee a super bowl win, (Just ask Dan Marino and Fran Tarkenton) but it sure as hell helps.

In this same time frame, the Vikings started a multitude of quarterbacks since the Kramer years. Here is just a small sampling of quarterbacks who started games, not just came in on relief, or were on the roster, but started games:
Tarvaris Jackson – Gus Frerotte – Kelly Holcomb – Brooks Bollinger – Brad Johnson. And that’s just the past two years.

Add Daunte Culpepper – Wade Wilson – Rich Gannon – Jim Mcmahon – Warren Moon – Randall Cunningham – Jeff George – Sean Salisbury – Todd Bauman – Shaun Hill – J.T. O’Sullivan – Steve Bono – Jay Fieldler – Spurgon Wynn – and Bubby (Freakin) Brister. Don’t forget our draft picks Gino Toretto and Chad May. Mercifully, these two didn’t get to take a snap.

See what I’m getting at here? Stability! The Vikings lacked stability at the quarterback position. Cris Carter is one of the greatest receivers in the history of the NFL. Imagine if he had the stability of a quality quarterback for 10 years. Same for Randy Moss. The Vikings had two of the best receivers in the game on the field at the same time. if they had a trigger man, history would have been rewritten.

Where does that leave the faithful Viking fan? My duty as a Viking fan is to despise all things Packer. And what more personifies Packers than quarterback Brett Favre? Perhaps Lombardi, but not much more. So what is a fan to do? Well, when Ryan Longwell defected and came to kick for the Vikings, I took it as a positive, the Vikings received a solid accurate clutch kicker and the Packers lost their star kicker. Same when Darren Sharper escaped Wisconsin and landed in the defensive back field for the Vikings. He became a solid player and leader for the Vikings and left the Packers scrambling to fill the void. Advantage Vikings again.

Now a third Packer is sure to arrive named Brett Favre. We all know his stats, they have been printed and regurgitated thousands of times a season. We also know about his baggage. And that he is a media whore. Plain and simple. That is not going to change. Every Viking game will be a circus atmosphere as dozens of reporters climb out of a clown car begging for the interview that will change the world.

Bottom line here Viking fans. I am a Viking fan. I want what is best for the team. When Berrian defected from Chicago, I embraced him as a new member of the Vikings. (Jim McMahon, not so much) Brett Favre is a better option at quarterback than Rosenfels, Jackson, and Booty. For Childress’ so-called “Kick ass offense” to be successful, he needs a quarterback that understand every nuiance of the game. That player is Brett Favre.

Kurt Warner turns 39 this year. Last season he took the talented Cardinals to the superbowl and if not for one amazing defensive play from the Steelers, they would be defending champions. Brett Favre has the same chance with the Vikings.

Step right up, get your tickets for the show.
